Introduce Yourself to the Wonderful World of Art Supplies!

Claire Reeder, co-owner of True Blue Art Supply, has an idea that professional and aspiring artists may find of interest. She calls it “Materials Monday.”

The idea is straightforward. She and her staff at True Blue Art Supply in Downtown Asheville are looking into providing weekly one-hour workshops about specific art supplies to increase understanding by art students and anyone who is considering taking up art.

The art supplies that would be discussed and demonstrated would be both new and traditional.

The instructors would be employees of True Blue Art Supply along with special guest artists. They would go from section to section within the store to examine the advantages and disadvantages of specific materials and art supplies and techniques.

“The idea is that we would go over how to use specific art supplies, and give examples of what things look like,” said Reeder. “When people are interested, that hour will go so fast. We will give some time at the end of each session to answer questions.”

“On “Materials Monday” we plan to cover a lot of ground, and it’s a great way to be introduced to art and art materials,” said Reeder. “There’s so much to art, whether it’s soft crayons, charcoal, acrylic, oil or something else. We’ll do different things such as trying out different brushes and brush strokes to see what results you get. “Materials Monday” will be a fun way to introduce people to the world of art supplies.”
